Reasons Why Each Team Could Likely Fail at Euro 2024

As Euro 2024 approaches, optimism reigns among fans. Yet, history suggests only a select few will taste victory. Since the tournament’s inception in 1960, only 11 nations have lifted the trophy.

With 24 teams competing in Germany, here’s why none of them will emerge victorious – ensuring 23 correct predictions at a 95.8% success rate.

Germany

Despite Julian Nagelsmann’s leadership, Germany remains a question mark. Three wins in their last five under him, including against France and the Netherlands, aren’t convincing. Their last match saw a narrow 2-1 victory over Greece.

Historically, German triumphs rely heavily on Bayern Munich players, but with Bayern’s lackluster season and only three Leverkusen players in the squad, expectations are tempered. Home pressure may just expose their vulnerabilities.

Scotland

Scotland faces a daunting task in their opener against Germany. Unless Steve Clarke orchestrates a monumental upset, their streak of one win in ten will continue. Their sole victory came against Gibraltar, ranked 203rd globally – a less-than-inspiring record.

Hungary

This Hungarian squad has promise, led by the talented Dominik Szoboszlai and guided by Marco Rossi. Their unbeaten qualifying run is impressive, but a stumble against the Republic of Ireland in a recent friendly reveals their fragility. Winning the Euros seems far-fetched.

Switzerland

Granite Xhaka’s unbeaten domestic season at Leverkusen offers hope, but it’s unrealistic. Switzerland’s chances at Euro 2024 are slim to none.

Spain

With Rodri anchoring the midfield, Spain rarely loses in regulation time. However, their recent exits from Euro 2020 and the last two World Cups came via penalties. Expect a similar fate, likely in the semi-finals.

Croatia

Luka Modric, at 38, still shines for Croatia. Despite leading them to the World Cup final in 2018 and the Nations League final last year, silverware remains elusive. Croatia’s journey will end short of ultimate glory once again.

Italy

Italy can’t sustain their Euros success solely on World Cup qualifying failures. Only Spain has won back-to-back Euros, at the height of their tiki-taka era. Italy’s chaotic form won’t suffice.

Albania

Sylvinho has done well as head coach, but facing Italy, Croatia, and Spain in their group spells doom for Albania.

England

Gareth Southgate’s era might be nearing its end. The dismal mood after a warm-up defeat to Iceland hints at impending disappointment. A heartbreaking semi-final exit seems likely.

Denmark

Denmark’s magical run in 1992 won’t repeat. Every team gets one major upset, and they’ve used theirs.

Serbia

Serbia boasts mavericks like Dusan Vlahovic and Aleksandar Mitrovic, but their unpredictability is their downfall. They’ll entertain, but not win.

Slovenia

Slovenia, never having escaped a group stage, remains unlikely victors. Benjamin Sesko’s contract extension at RB Leipzig won’t help their chances.

France

France, with a stacked squad and Kylian Mbappé, seems poised for success. Yet, their history of spectacular implosions looms large. A group stage meltdown is overdue.

Austria

Facing France, the Netherlands, and Poland is tough enough. With key injuries, Austria’s path to victory is blocked.

Netherlands

Frenkie de Jong’s injury and recent poor form against major rivals make a repeat of Euro 88 unlikely.

Poland

The Robert Lewandowski show might not even feature him, given his fitness woes. Expect a painful watch for Polish fans.

Belgium

Despite thriving under Domenico Tedesco, Belgium’s history of underachievement at major tournaments will continue.

Romania

Group E’s underdogs, Romania, will struggle to advance past Slovakia and Ukraine.

Slovakia

Potential Group E runners-up, Slovakia will likely exit in the round of 16.

Ukraine

Ukraine, like at Euro 2020, will falter against top contenders, despite global goodwill.

Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo’s tournament-long drama will end in a quarter-final exit.

Turkey

Remember Turkey’s dark horse status at Euro 2020? It didn’t go well. Expect a repeat.

Georgia

Euro 2024 is Georgia’s first major tournament. Their story will end quickly.

Czech Republic

The Czechs, despite recent wins, will exit early against stronger opponents.

Euro 2024 promises drama and excitement, but these 24 teams will find triumph elusive in Germany.
