Nottinghamshire Street Decked Out for Euro 2024

Pinewood Gardens in Clifton has transformed into Nottinghamshire’s most patriotic street. Decked out in England flags and over a mile and a half of bunting, the community has rallied to support the national team in Euro 2024.

The display, inspired by resident Charlie Brown, who is now in Germany for the tournament, has brought neighbors closer. “It starts at my house and spreads through the street,” said Charlie’s father, Tony Brown. “We go round to each other’s houses to watch the games. You can hear the cheers when England scores. It’s great! Very noisy at night when the wind blows, but it’s lovely to see people smiling.”

BBC reports that Rich Baker, a 62-year-old resident, lauded the effort. “This street is fantastic for patriotism,” he said. “All the neighbors chip in and get on board with the tournament. There isn’t one of us who doesn’t help out. If it’s the most patriotic street, we’ll certainly take that!”

Euro 2024

Neighbor Mick Greensmith, 68, reflected on the community spirit. “It wasn’t easy, but we did it together. We built it as a team, and it gives us a fantastic street community which a lot of places lack,” he noted. “We don’t just do football tournaments. We celebrate parties, birthdays, and coronations. Any excuse to have a street party and bring the community together.”

Greensmith added, “I get very emotional when I speak about the street and what we do, especially when it comes to football. We all love it. We are a street that pulls together, and the community feel is immense. Most people should take note because it’s important.”

Pinewood Gardens stands as a testament to the power of community spirit and shared passion. As Euro 2024 progresses, this Nottinghamshire street is a shining example of how football can unite and bring joy to a neighborhood.
